Honda Pilot or Odyssey? In Frisco They're $312 Apart on Listed Price, So Here's How to Choose

The dealership lists a 2026 Pilot Sport and a 2027 Odyssey EX-L about $312 apart in Frisco, about $7 a month by my arithmetic. How to decide between them by how your family actually lives, not by price.

Key takeaways

  1. As of this writing the dealership lists the 2027 Odyssey EX-L and the 2026 Pilot Sport about $312 apart, so decide on fit, not price. Listed prices are reported, not promised, and change with every refresh.
  2. If your days involve car seats, school pickup and lots of gear, test the Odyssey first for its sliding doors and much larger cargo space.
  3. If you need all-wheel drive or plan to tow more than about 3,000 lb, the Pilot is the right tool.
  4. Waiting for a 2027 Pilot probably won't get you much, since reports expect it to carry over until a redesign around 2028.
  5. Bring your car seats and your real cargo to a back-to-back test drive, and run your own down payment through the estimator first.

How to read the figures here

I report prices; I don’t set them. Every price in this piece is the dealership’s public listing as of Nov 4, 2026, repeated as published. It is not a quote, an offer or a promise, it can change at any time, and nothing here obliges the dealership or me to honor it. Only a signed buyer’s order sets a price.

Any monthly figure is my arithmetic on those listings (Texas tax, the doc fee, title and registration added, then financed), shown as an estimate and not as an offer of credit. The 9.99% APR behind every payment is a starting assumption so that no one sees a rate before a lender has reviewed their credit; it is not a rate anyone is placed at, and yours may be higher or lower. Rebates, programs, your trade and anything you add change the final figures, which the dealership sets at purchase.

In Frisco right now, the dealership lists its lowest-priced 2027 Honda Odyssey EX-L at $42,337 and its lowest-priced 2026 Honda Pilot Sport at $42,649, about $312 apart on listed price, or about $7 a month by my arithmetic. Those are the dealership's public listings as published, not a quote, an offer or a promise from me or the store; they can change at any time, nothing obliges the dealership to honor them, and only a signed buyer's order sets a price. So price won't settle this. How your family gets in, sits down and loads up will.

I get this question from families almost every week, usually from parents who swore they'd never drive a minivan. Here's how I'd think it through if you were my neighbor.

The Frisco numbers, side by side

These are the dealership's lowest listed prices as of this writing, reported as published and before the documentary fee, Texas tax, title and registration, with an estimated monthly figure for 60 months at the 9.99% APR starting assumption with nothing down. 9.99% is not a rate anyone is placed at; a lender sets the real rate after reviewing credit, and it could be lower or higher. None of this is an offer of credit or a promise of price.

2027 Odyssey EX-L$42,337$96618
2026 Pilot Sport$42,649$9732
2026 Pilot EX-L$43,844$1,0005
2027 Odyssey Touring$46,127$1,05112

2026 Pilot Touring$51,128$1,1641
2026 Pilot Black Edition$52,589$1,1976
2027 Odyssey Elite$53,915$1,2279
2026 Pilot Elite$55,290$1,25819

Texas sales tax, the documentary fee and title and registration come on top of the listed price; I go through them line by line on my Texas tax, title and fees page, and the estimator works them out on the exact car as an estimate.

Two things stand out. At the entry point the two are basically tied. At the top, the Odyssey Elite is listed about $1,375 under the Pilot Elite. Inventory matters too. The dealership lists 18 Odyssey EX-Ls but only 2 Pilot Sports, so if you want the lowest-priced Pilot, you'll have fewer colors to pick from.

Choose the Odyssey if your days are about kids and car seats

On paper the two are close. Both seat 8 and both use a V6. Honda lists 280 hp for the Odyssey and 285 hp for the Pilot Sport. The real difference is how each one handles a Tuesday afternoon.

  • Sliding doors. In a tight Frisco school pickup line or a packed parking garage, power sliding doors mean no door dings and no squeezing a car seat through a half-open door.
  • Cargo space. Honda's published figure for the Odyssey EX-L is 86.6 cu ft, against 48.5 cu ft for the Pilot Sport. That's a big gap if you're hauling strollers, sports gear and Costco runs.
  • Fuel. The Odyssey EX-L is rated at 22 mpg combined.
  • Inventory and price. It's the lower-listed way into a three-row Honda, and the dealership has the most of them on hand.

If you have two or three kids under ten, I'll be honest: most families who try both come back to the van.

Choose the Pilot if you tow, need AWD, or leave the pavement

The Pilot is the better tool for some jobs, and I wouldn't talk anyone out of it.

  • All-wheel drive. The Pilot offers it and the Odyssey is front-wheel drive only. If you drive to the mountains or to a family place up north, that may settle it.
  • Towing. A properly equipped Pilot is rated up to 5,000 lb, which covers a lot of boats and small campers. The Odyssey is rated lower, at about 3,000 lb.
  • TrailSport. The dealership lists 10 Pilot TrailSports from $49,278. If gravel roads and campsites are part of your life, that trim is built for them.
  • Parking and looks. Some people just want an SUV, and that's a fair reason.

If you're cross-shopping outside Honda, the base-trim specs favor the Pilot Sport over a Toyota Highlander XLE AWD: 8 seats vs 7, 285 hp vs 265, and 158.4 vs 139.5 cu ft of passenger volume. On the van side, the Odyssey EX-L has 280 hp against 245 for a Toyota Sienna LE.

Should you wait for a 2027 Pilot?

The Pilot on the lot is a 2026, refreshed last year. Current reporting expects the 2027 to arrive without major changes, with a full redesign more likely around the 2028 model year. Honda has said a V6 hybrid is coming for its larger SUVs, but the timeline it has given is later this decade, not this winter. If you need the space now, I don't see a strong reason to hold out for a 2027.

How I'd actually decide

  1. Bring the car seats. Install them in both vehicles and buckle a kid into the third row of each.
  2. Fold the third row and load what you really carry, like the stroller, the wagon or the hockey bag.
  3. Be honest about towing and AWD. If you don't need either, the Odyssey gives you more room for a lower listed price.
  4. Run your own numbers. Put in your down payment and trade on my payment estimator before you visit. You can also see every trim on the Odyssey price guide and the Pilot price guide.
These are estimates, not offers. Prices and inventory change as cars sell, and only a signed buyer's order sets a price. An invitation to come test-drive both is just that, an invitation.

If you'd like to drive them back to back, I'm happy to line both up so you can switch in five minutes. There's no pressure. Whichever one fits your family is the right answer, even if that means waiting.

Questions people ask

Is the Honda Odyssey cheaper than the Honda Pilot in Frisco?

At the entry trims, barely. As of this writing the dealership lists the 2027 Odyssey EX-L at $42,337 and the 2026 Pilot Sport at $42,649, a $312 gap, about $7 a month in estimated payments at the 9.99% starting assumption over 60 months. At the top trims, the Odyssey Elite is listed about $1,375 under the Pilot Elite. Listed prices are reported, not promised; only a signed buyer's order sets a price.

Which has more cargo room, the Honda Pilot or the Odyssey?

The Odyssey. Honda's published figure for the Odyssey EX-L is 86.6 cubic feet, compared with 48.5 for the Pilot Sport. The minivan's sliding doors and boxier shape also make car seats and bulky gear easier to load.

Does the Honda Odyssey come with all-wheel drive?

No. The Odyssey is front-wheel drive only. If you need all-wheel drive or plan to tow more than about 3,000 lb, the Pilot is the better fit. A properly equipped Pilot is rated to tow up to 5,000 lb.
